The MBTA's Kawasakis were certainly built before VRE's, but it should be apparent that VRE's definitely were not a piggyback. Similarly all the Bombardier Bilevel and Multilevels are, for the most part, independent orders, not piggyback orders. I don't think Caltrain still uses the old Pullman-Standard Gallery cab cars, but a few P-S coaches may remain in service.Do you have permission from the people who took and posted those photos to reproduce them on your Photobucket account because you apparently can't figure out how to hotlink directly from the original host? |

Now if the MBTA wasn't so dumb as to build high platforms at North and South Stations, they could've been the one system in the Northeast to use gallery cars.BTW, those VRE Kawasaki bilevels (now in MARC's hands IIRC) have automatic trapdoors. |

Southern Pacific was running gallery cars since the 60s. Caltrain merely continued the tradition and added cab cars. |

I don't know, the backround of the AMT shot is too blurry to determine if it is Newark Penn Station. Maybe there is a station up in Montreal that looks similar... |

The only electric line in Montreal (all of Canada, actually) has dedicated tracks at Gare Central which are completely underground and wouldn't be sharing the rest of its route with multilevels.Plus, the curve at the end is from Newark and I think I see a bit of a display board. The AMT multilevels are on track A (IIRC), while the track closer to the camera is track 1 (for New York-bound trains). |

The MLVs were meant to run out of Gare Centrale with the ALP-45DPs. AMT bought both for the Train de l'Est (Repentigny-Mascouche) route.Only reason that Gare Centrale now has unelectrified tracks is for dome car access. |

Speaking of double-deck trams, they were very commonplace in London and Dublin as well. London even had a subway-surface operation for their double-deckers, in the Kingsway system; these ran on conduit power. |
