Cops can and do commit murder, and are charges as such.In the line of duty is seldom murder because the INTENT to commit murder is seldom present. the victim is usually a minority. Is this because the majority of miscreants are minorities? If people (regardless of race) are well educated, have a good job and a fine home they are seldom out committing crimes of the sort that would require lethal force. Poor White Trash are just as likely to commit the same sorts of crime as Poor Black Trash, and are just as likely to get shot as a result. If I kill someone who is attacking me, it is not because they are black, but because they are attacking me. And BTW: The only time I was ever accosted with evil intent was by another white man. But then, I am not likely to be in a neighborhood other than my own.

OK, the LION Gooooogled "Corey Maye" and read what happened.The LION agrees with you. Corey should NOT have been found guilty of murder under any circumstance. He should NOT have even been brought to trial. He was awaken from sleep by intruders, went and un-boxed a weapon, loaded it, and when the room that he was in was entered by armed men, he fired. People who enter other people's homes be they law enforcement officers or not run the risk of being shot. Clearly the officers did not use good police procedures if one of them got shot. If the cops were up to training, Cory would have been the one who was shot, and that would not have been right either. In California you could say "shit happens" as we all know well that it does. In Mississippi there was clearly a miscarriage of justice, this is especially so given the states mishandling of the evidence in Maye's apartment. LION'S VERDICT: Mississippi is Guilty: Maye goes free with remuneration for injustice done him.

As far as he was concerned, they were home invaders. He probably perceived what sort of people his neighbors were, maybe who the previous tenant was. He was in a dangerous situation, and cops in tactical gear simply look like monsters.He did not INTEND to kill a cop, he did not INTEND to kill anybody until his home was invaded. When you invade someone's home, be you cop or not, you need to be prepared for a reaction. Cops are trained to deal with and survive reactions. Homeowners are not so trained. If the BART incident was an accident, this one was not. Violence was expected by the officers, that they did not kill Cory was a miracle in itself, it showed some restraint and professionalism on the part of the officers. That an officer was killed proves that they need to do still more training. Bottom Line: Cory did not invade anybody's home, he was not on the streets, he was not a public threat. The officers were.

But Oscar Grant was suspected only of fighting on the train, not attacking the cops, who have no difficulty at all in handcuffing him and getting him proned out onb the station platform. Grant eas unarmed and restrained when he was shot by Mehserle, and I don't buy his argument at all. But California juries have a sad track record of being very lenient with cops who kill minorities. |

I understand, but there are MANY people out there trying to justify the killing of Mr. Grant because of his less than stellar history.Nobody here is saying that the death of the young man was justified. He did nothing to warrant it. What *is* being said, is that individuals with previous criminal records, who have vendettas against the police, are wild, uncooperative, and struggle while under arrest, are more likely to *create* a situation where an accident like this can occur. People who are arrested and continue to act like wild animals become a variable and create opportunities for unfortunate incidents such as these to occur. So yes, I would say that someone with a prior record, and therefore prior history of disdain against the police, would be more inclined to act in such a way. |
