Posted by Train Man Paul : Metro-North's Best Conductor FOR ALL 3 LINES!!! on Sun Jul 25 20:53:47 2010 Here is a mix pf photographs shot this past Wednesday, which pits my employer (and BEST commuter railroad!!! :-D) Metro-North Railroad versus the Wrong Island Failroad.....oops, I meant Long Island Railroad!!! May the best railroad win this showdown!!!Up first, the LIRR...... Hazy, hot and humid @ Carle Place....... Along comes some "Lemon"-ade!!!     Double-decked!!!   Old school!!! M-3s......  WHOOSH!!!  See Ya!!!  And of course, there is the M-7!!!       So far, it appears the LIRR put on quite a good show here!! Next post, Metro-North will definitely bring the battle forth!! This it very true, MNR operations seem much more fine tuned & customer oriented than the LIRR. The LIRR attitude is that they are the best game in town & if you don't like it , well then just tough it out on the LIE or GCP & see how that works out.Lets not forget, MNR had to rebuild a commuter rail system that was very close to being run into the ground by Conrail attitudes & indifferent brass, where the LIRR was given a ressurection (and blank check) of sorts by Gov Rockefeller to make it the best railroad in the world. I remember in the late 60's they would regulary cancel 20-30 trains a day. NYCRR & NH did'nt recieve nowhere near that attention & money. As I see it, MNR runs a better overall operation & is better equipt to handle the future traffic increases as (when) the economy turns around. After all, just as a simple example, there is not an inch of fiberoptic cable on LIRR territory to this day where it's prevalent in the railroad industury worldwide, so Im told.. |

IAWTP 100%I have not only heard from PAX that MNR is more customer oriented and operationally better than the LIRR but have heard it from within the MTA itself. One of the guys in my dept is an ex-LIRR employee and when he first came the first thing he said after a few days at work at MNR was "this place is a lot better". I have heard this from other former LIRR workers too. |

I have spoken to passengers who ride both the LIRR and MNR, and they all say the same thing, MNR far exceeds LIRR in service, quality of service, timeliness of service, and courteousness of crews and employees. All of which I can say I agree with, and no this opinion is NOT based on the fact I work for MNR, but the fact that even before I joined the MNR ranks I experienced how MNR handles things and how LIRR handles things!! |

Before I worked for MNR I spent a lot of time visiting an uncle on LI and another uncle in Croton on the Hudson so I rode both RRs regularly and always admired MNR better than the LIRR. |
