Was the Grand Street shuttle ever operated backwards?

I have to get this straight lol I always think for some reason that the Grand Street Shuttle during the Manhattan Bridge reconstruction the northbound from Grand St to West 4th operated backwards...I even remember the cab door of the northbound end being open and nobody inside; however I'm the only one that thinks this

So can somebody whose worked the Grand Street shuttle during that time confirm it for me- was it ever operated backwards? or is my mind screwing around with me as usual lol

What do you mean by backwards? Wrong-rail, or that the operator
was backing up the train?

It sounds like he means that the T/O was backing up the train an absolute No - No on NYCTS.

I beleive he ment wrong rail.

Which it did in 2004.

But prior to that when it was a full shuttle from 57th and 6th to Grand it did not! I don't know where it switched back over, But I rode that train to W4 to get to school, And it was always on the wall.

Wrong rail isn't backwards.

Nobody operates a train backwards unless it's being backed up.

Back in the 80's the shuttle did "wrong rail" through Broadway/Lafayette, usually on the uptown track. There are no switches which allow any other type of service between W4th and Grand (bad design).

And ENY made sure it got the worst R27's they had, assuring it would be a noisy trip.

Wasn't it on the downtown track?

I think "single tracking" is meant.
