Again, some great finds. I don't think I've ever seen inside Brewster's shop before, so a million thanks for sharing that. The bluriness of that photo makes it look like those two M3's are about to collide.

I see 127, 128, 129. Where's 130 hiding? Note, those BLshits can only do 75 MPH with train. I've never been a fan of any equipment that can't do the MAS for all areas it operates through.....

For that I do agree, and which is why I think they earned the name BL-Shits!! :-D

As for #130, last seen at Harmon Yard and this was some time back, over 6 months!!

The blurred shots I consider a blunder, but again with no where to rest my bag, I had to make do with the situation as it existed.

yup and we do not run mini bombs there.
or upper Hudson.
Im sure with occasional rescue where a BL20gh has to tow a revenue bomb train it won't be getting much over 65 mph between stations anyway, thats where that 75 mph gearing is best, in towing.
A higher gearing would render the unit useless, it would be like running your car in 4th gear all the time.

Not for nothing, I would love to see some of the M-2s (at least the 8800s), whichever ones which manage to last, if so, get a similar refurbishment as the M-3As have, possibly consider same for the M-4s and M-6s. I think a similar makeover, in a interior color decor that resembles that of the M-8s would look pretty nice.

You want Diesel speed?? Gotta stay on the Upper Hudson. I believe the MAS between Cold Spring & New Hamburg is 95. I remember some of the now retired engineers saying that 2 FL-9's with 7 Bombs could never get past 80. Todays GE's solved that problem.

Even the "starships', those AC rebuilds of the late 90's which cost the MTA @ 15mil each to rebuild, and were in service to the early 00's could'nt meet their performance goals. Thus the need for a padded schedule.
The FL-9 AC rebuild program was one of the biggest mistakes the MTA ever agreed to.
Botton line, the Gennies are geting it done. I'll be on #802 tomorrow & barring anything unforseen. Ill be in GCT early, as in before timetable time, as usual.

Since Im perfectly qualified on the Hudson , I can tell you there are no mini bombs with BL20gh roaming there, other than south of Harmon where speed is 75 mph max.
The Fl-9's were perfectly capable of doing maximum speed as their track speed was 89 mph, the F-10's were capable of max 83 mph.
The starships were initially 100 mph but later all FL-9's and F10's were restricted to 79 mph due to cant-deficiency on curves.
currently the Hudson line does have a max speed of 90 mph from MP 53.1 to Division post/CSX/(mp75.8)

Again there is no need for speed on the BL20gh's.

There has'nt been a mini-bomb on the upper hudson in at least 20 yrs. FL-9's haven't (could'nt) do more than 75mph beyond Croton-North over there in the last 10 yrs of their lives. Serious truck hunting issues hindered their longivety to say the least.

Sadly, Amtrak ran their FL-9's into the ground in their final years running out of GCT. Often, for example, train #49 would have one FL-9 on the point with at least 9 heavyweight coaches in tow. Best speed 50mph, if that. Screaming in run 8 in the Park Ave tunnel spewing gobs of blue smoke diesel fumes for any lungs to ingest.

That was ok but god forbid if you lit up a cigarette.

They were designed, as single MU cars to replace the ACMU's and could be used as centercar or in between pairs to run with M-3's.
LIRR rejected the design, and wanted someting different, hence the M-7
