Any idea when that was taken?By the way, is there any way of finding out where the ROW is north of the Bushwick Branch? All I've been able to find is a strangely angled building just south of the BQE on Manhattan Avenue. |

None of them are too precise, and the area has changed alot since 1897 besides. There's another strangely angled building at the end of Scholes St, west of Varick Ave, visible on the Google satellite view. Then it crossed English Kills (not sure where), paralleled Vandevoort (again, not sure where, though maybe Vandevoort is so wide because it incorporates the ROW?), turned west running between Frost and Richardson, and it looks as if Beverage World, on the SE corner of Manhattan & Meeker, is newer construction than the surrounding buildings, and is also a rather oddly shaped building, and then I don't know where the ROW goes until it exits McCarren Park as North 15th Street. I've never seen a street map that shows the ROW, because it existed for so short a time. For abandoned ROW searching, this one is a pretty high degree of difficulty. |

It ran from the Bay Ridge line near Cooper Ave to a junction with the Bushwich Branch. A lot of it has been built upon in recent years. Much of it ran down alleys and across unprotected grade crossings and was little used: |

Check the 1924 aerial photos, there are buildings built around the New York and Manhattan Beach railroad that still existed then, and some still are around now. The routing between Frost/Richardon RoW (where it literally ran through people's backyards) and what is now McCarren Park is a mystery right now, it might have gone down Union St., don't rightly know yet. There is a map that is on the Art H LIRR site, and if we had the missing piece between what is now McCarren Park and the Frost/Richardson right of way heading to Van DerVoort, we'd have the missing piece. Being that this narrow gauge railroad is local to me now, I am seriously doing some research where ever I can find it. |

The ROW was parallel to Wyckoff, about 1/4 of the block down toward Irving. It passed just a few doors up the street from my great aunt's building on Harman. It was active at least as late as 1974. There are new buildings blocking it at a number of locations, so it's no longer possible to use it. |

I remember these tracks being in limited use in the 60's. My Father and I often walked from Putnam down towards the St Felix St. area. I wonder if they were still in use today if the would feature idling diesel engines and garbage. They use be used to transport lumber to the old lumber yard at Putnam & Wyckoff. That sight is now a supermarket. |

I never saw evidence of there ever having been two tracks. If there ever was a second track, it had to have been removed and all traces eradicated by 1912 when my relatives moved into the neighborhood. As I remember it, the track was mostly in the center of the ROW. In some spots it shifted slightly to one side. Perhaps there were provisions for sidings, but there definitely were none between Dekalb and Palmetto. |
