|
Posted by Railman718 on Mon May 30 00:13:25 2005 If im correct MOST of the R142 fleet has the updated software worked the 5 today and all i see was the new signage on the 4 5 and 6 trains. The 4 read as Lexington Ave EXP Eastern PKWY EXP WoodlawnThe 5 read as Lextington Ave EXP Bronx LCL Bowling Green The 6 read as Lextington Ave LCL Pelham LCL Pelham Bay Park The 2 read as 7AV EXP Eastern PKWY LCL Flatbush AVE As of Tuesday May 31 st there will be no more 5 "diamond" trains leaving or going to Neried Ave.Im sure the new map has this as well only the 6 and 7 trains will still have thier diamonds on the map and on the train signage. |

MTA maps show a rush hour peak direction 5 service going to Nereid Av, as of May 29. Are you saying that service is being eliminated? |

Whats the point of killing the 5 Diamond.I mean, people like to see in advance if its their train. Now they got to wait till the train fully enters while they could just be sitting down if they know its not there train. Let me guess, we'll be finding a green 9 as the new express? >_>; |

That's one place the diamond made sense.I guess it's inconsistent. Rush hour 2's to New Lots never carried diamonds -- but that's probably simply because R-33 rolls never had diamond-2's. |

Well, actually, it wouldmake more sense to assign it a different number (the 9 is available now) since that train uses a different branch than regular 5 service. |

No there just not going to have them with the Diamond sings and more. There was a notest in our board at work out that said the only diamond train will be the <6> and the <7>. All other serices will still run but only with the (5) signs.Robert |

It's identical to the other 5 between E180 and Franklin. It differs only in the last few stops at either end. To most of the passengers along the line, a numerical distinction would only create confusion. |

But wasnt it the S before the 5 anyways? Or some number switching? So why not change it again? I still fail to see why they removed a simple 5 Diamond from a digital sign. Are they trying to save on there LED's now? <_< |

"It differs only in the last few stops at either end"It differs as significantly as the 2 differs from the 3. "To most of the passengers along the line, a numerical distinction would only create confusion." No, it would remove the current confusion. Passengers would understand the 9 train runs only at rush hour and always goes to Nereid Av. That's clearer for passengers. |

The 3 doesn't enter the Bronx at all. The 3 runs all day in both directions. The diamond-5 runs only rush hours, peak-direction only (from the Bronx's perspective), and diverges from the circle-5 well into the Bronx and well into Brooklyn. It doesn't even have one consistent south terminal. |

The 3 doesn't enter the Bronx at all."Not relevant. The only relevant issue is that it branches away from the 2 and has a different terminal. "It doesn't even have one consistent south terminal. " Again, not relevant. It has a consistent northern terminal (Nereid). It never runs to Dyre Av. |
