Whistle Blower falls to tracks gets hurt. |
|
Posted by Railman718 on Tue Dec 8 07:51:10 2009 The person who talked to the IG regarding the investigation about his fellow trackworkers got hurt on the job he says he was pushed to the roadbed.IF somebody did push him(because WE dont know all the facts he says he was pushed he could have fallen also) thats just dumb you are looking to get fired and or locked up... Now when did he drop dime? When the first report came out? This was ongoing anyway. Still another negative hit to us,sigh.... Snitches do get stitches? |

One question. HOW did others find out that he spoke to the IG? Aren't such communications supposed to be confidential? |

There is no thug culture in TWU, hasn't been since Mike Quill, maybe still occasional in DOB and track but not the other divisions. Other than a couple of renegades using sugar in the tanks of supts cars, violence in the workplace for union purposes does not exist for an exceptionally weak local. Nothing like the Teamsters. |

Anyone with half a brain knew the person who ratted to the investigator had to be a ta employee......Anyone surprised by the actions/consequences are fools......if true, this guy blew the cover of his own co-workers.....he should have feared for his safety........ Imo he should have kept his mouth shut....... |

Followed by the old Longshoreman's union, the ILA, which was probably the most completely mobbed-up union in the US.The ILA may still be mobbed up but is really nothing now compared to what it was in the 1950s and 1960s. Containerization eliminated a lot of jobs. That, and a lot of shipping companies left the NYC/NJ area for a lot of reasons. Rail access among them. |

Uh, it is a problem when the agency is paying workers who, due to the work rules and safety considerations can't do any work. It is estimated that this costs the TA $10 million per year. Considering the finances of the TA, I would say that is a problem.Their are a lot of jobs where you know you are not going to get to work 9-5 M-F. With a 24 hour system, that is certainly the case. My father worked midnights for years. |

I saw this story tonight on Ch.7 news. This guy stated that he plans to go back to work after he heals. My advice to him is to grow a pair of eyes in the back of his head. Bill Newkirk |

Maybe he saw something that wasn't right and wanted to make things better. He was very brave in doing what he did. Those who feel he should have kept his mouth shut are just selfish and don't care at all about the efficiency of the system or the taxpayer. Working two hours a day for 8 hours pay just isn't right, even if that is management's fault and not the track workers' which the report made clear. |

"Snitches do get stitches?"I thought the same thing!! Always heard the line, but damn this has to be the first time I heard of it literally happening!! C'mon though, while I do not condone the violence if this was indeed an intentional incident, some things are better off staying locked in closed lips!! |

It's not a question of cutting jobs or firing people. It's a question of making the work more efficient, like planning deliveries better so they are there when the workers are there and ready to work. Yes, it may mean more split shifts or more work on weekends, but if that is what it takes to make operations more efficient, then I'm all for it. |
