Yeah..I just got back home from dropping off my fiancee. No sign of the slant when I went to B'way Junction on my trip to canarsie and way back.She felt sad too because she was able to see it this morning and by the time she wanted to take a picture, her train pulled in and block the view. We both were hoping to catch it even at Grant Ave. this afternoon before 6pm. But..at least there's always a chance to see a slant even after today ;) At the ENY Yard just need some good vision while passing by or just standing on the L or J platform LOL.  Even though it won't be in revenue service but for those who want to see them still that would be one of the good spots to catch some pictures :P My next opportunity to see a slant in person would be probably when they make their debut in the transit museum. I hope at that point I can go catch it and take tons of pics. |

Thanks NETO.Those are excellent shots!! Once I finish editing some of my pictures from the transit museum today, I'll post them on here as well. Gotta love the redbirds and the R-1's ! I was talking to the security guard today at the transit museum too and told him the slants were retiring today. He felt sad about it because when he was 16, he first saw them on the F. Glad to see that there's a pair preserved and I'll definitely take a trip down there to visit when the time comes. I'll also work on a tribute video of the R-38's and the R-40 slants over the weekend. I'll give credit to the original authors of the pictures of course. Is that alright with everyone here? |

Well...as it turns out...my mother happened to be in Harlem at 145th St/St. Nicholas just now at 8 PM. And she says that at she was coming down the stairs, a conductor was holding the doors open for her, saying "come on, come on, be a part of history!" However, I gave her specific directions to come back to Brooklyn to the (3) using the (D), and not the (A). The conductor explained to her that the "slants are going away." She did report railfans in the first car. So, hope you guys enjoyed the ride. I decided not to stay out today after going out railfanning this morning because of the weather, but regardless, at least she saw the last remaining slant in service. |

From the pics I've seen, the cars on the death line @ 20th still have their ads and service notices posted. And who gets the job of operating the consist up to 207th? A T/O on overtime, or does a "specialist" travel from 207th to pitkin to pick up the doomed consist? |

IINM the last run for this set was from Pitkin to 207th Street, and so it was just a matter of a regular move into the yard.A Yard Jockey would have moved it from the revenue line to the scrap line. The scrapping crew undoubtedly removes everything that is not going to go swimming with the car. Includes ads, litter etc etc. ROAR |
