Erie varnish *at Erie Terminal* in Jersey City (Color)

Where does this feller Krone get these pix, seriously? (No, he's not me.) This is a first for me, seeing color photos of trains at Erie Terminal. (Yup, they had the H&M connection, at what is now Pavonia-Newport; but this is the station that the "E" on the columns in that station represents.)

Date is February 1956. Two E8As in the foreground, which according to the caption are the power for the Lake Cities and Erie Limited, which were the Erie's big trains to Chicago Dearborn via today's Southern Tier. Stilwell commuter cars in the background.

Another one showing the view from the platforms, with the shelters. Not as elaborate as the CRRNJ or DL&W terminals with their Lincoln Bush sheds, and nothing like the PRR's Exchange Place terminal which prior to WWII had a great arch, but it's a bit better than Weehawken Terminal in terms of shelter.

Date is 3/22/57. Last day of ferry operation, according to the caption. Two commuter trains hauled by Alcos (looks like FA and PA to me, but the caption says PA-2 and PA-1) . . . the Erie had already been operating trains into Hoboken Terminal, since 10/13/56 . . .

They're jaw-droppers for me; the quality is impeccable. Wonder what kind of camera Mr. Krone used?

I've never seen a single picture of the Erie terminal in JC. These are cool. IIRC the station was 30 years older than Hoboken and when the merger took place, it was Hoboken which was chosen as the joint terminal.

At the time, though, the Pavonia terminal was indeed the oldest Hudson waterfront terminal in its original configuration.

WOW! Does that bring back memories. Erie-Lackawanna used E8's to pull its passenger service on the Port Jervis line when I first began commuting from Middletown, NY in 1970.

You get to see Erie Terminal when you were a youngster, then . . . ? Certainly, these are the same trains that ran out of Hoboken wearing different paint.

Here's another one, but not by Krone. This dates way back to 1950.
