David - what are you going to do? Tear up all the streets that were paved after the el was torn down to make a trail?I have walked the Culver Shuttle a couple of years back from the fence outside the yard (where you can see the portal) to where it connects at Ditmas. Not much to speak of - mainly auto shops and other small businesses, some private homes. |

If I remember correctly (from the last time I was there), there are houses (condos) already built on most of the land under the el (SBK tracks connecting MacDonald Ave. with the 36th St, yard) |

Indeed, you can see them from the F train at Ditmas Ave, the el would go right through the second floor of these new homes. |

They could build a platform right in your kitchen, so you get off the train with your groceries and take two steps to your refrigerator door. :0) |

Sadly, with the way some NY-ers act about how the MTA should do things, thats almost how some people want things, as if they want 'em to have MTA butlers carry them from their house to the subway, to their own dedicated subway car that would take them wherever they wanna go. >_> |

Outside of (maybe) surface tracks, the structure was torn down years ago. And the surface tracks by now likely been taken out. |

I remember when I was looking at houses some years ago, we were at a house with a realtor, and the realtor was talking about how great the house was, and then came, "....but the negative part is that it backs up to the railroad tracks....". I wanted to say, "You make it sound like that's a bad thing"...Haha.Well, I didn't by the house, but it wasn't because of the tracks, lol. |

I would welcome the railroad tracks in back of my house. There are some homes along the Boonton line in NJ which aren't even fenced off from the tracks. I could foam without ever leaving the comfort of my own home. |

At the time I was working one day a week at Church Avenue on the F.One day after work I walked over to the Culver Shuttle. Fort Hamilton I think. I had ideas about going up the stairs into the station. But part of the staircase was missing. The following week I walked back over there and the structure was gone. |

That's very common in less suburban areas. Fences are almost unheard of the more rural it gets. In Eastern Suffolk, many houses also aren't fenced off. |

Yup.....there are townhouses built on the old Culver (and SBK) ROW. Not a remnant remains to remind anyone of it's former glory. :-(At least NYCT saw fit to keep the trackage leading up from Ninth Avenue lower level to the fencing at Fort Hamilton Parkway. The old BMT Burro Crane was kept over there till a couple of years ago. I think Kingston Trolley Museum has it now. |

Yup, my friends childhood home here in Delaware is right up against the CSX line, no fence no thing. Even my friends house in Port Washington has no fence blocking it from the LIRR....but there are a LOT of trees...and a creek |
