RUMOR: New South Ferry Terminal Open at 5AM Monday? |

Rumor has it that according to a user at NYC Transit Forums that some MTA employees at South Ferry have been reporting that the new South Ferry Terminal is scheduled to open today at 5AM. I can attest to that because I too asked the booth clerk on Saturday evening and they mentioned Monday as well with a degree of uncertainty as well.Who knows for sure but I guess we can all stay tuned? |

The current state of the entrances leads me to believe that there may be a bit more to be done before the new terminal opens. Other than making more space available in the plaza in front of the terminal, there are few outward signs great progress. The middle entrance that is a short distance away from the terminal does not seem complete, nor does the entrance that is next to Battery Park. I agree that maybe the workers have made great progress with the terminal underground and the parts that can not be easily casually seen by the public now.I tend to believe that it will be a little while longer for the new terminal to be ready to be open. Every day it slips beyond the "Late 2007" opening date and every million paid to get the station open is just another reason it was a bad idea to go forward with the project.But then its easy to be a vapid cheerleader from a few thousand miles away. You'll never have to deal with the more crowded trains, longer commutes, or packed elevators which will bring everyone else down to earth. |
