Posted by Howard Fein on Thu Mar 31 13:25:00 2005, in response to Re: List of crossovers/unders, posted by SPUI on Thu Mar 31 09:22:59 2005. Alabama Avenue is officially listed as a J-only stop. But unofficially, the Z stops there too due to the fact that the ENY shops and bus depot are both served by this stop. So it's for the convenience of these facilities' employees. There was no Jamaica/Broadway skip-stop service between the September '76 demise of the K and the December '88 Archer extension opening. So for over twelve years, the J was the sole service beyond Myrtle. That meant EVERY train made EVERY stop from Myrtle into Queens. This all-local service pattern combined with a badly deteriorating structure and most service provided by aging R16s and 27/30s, contributed to a dramatic decrease of ridership that never recovered-DESPITE the line being re-extended to Jamaica, connected with the E and the return of skip-stop service. |

No, there are three southbound E's out of 179 in the afternoon. (They used to depart at 3:57, 4:16, and 4:36; those times may have changed.)The three morning analogues drop out at Union Turnpike. |

No, but perhaps it's reasonable to direct passengers to the entrance they need. The entrances at 40/Broadway direct passengers to 7th Avenue for the 1/2/3/9/7 and to 8th Avenue for the A/C/E, since otherwise it's a long walk through crowded passageways. |
