PHOTOS: Altoona's AMTRAN

This weekend, I went with some friends to Railfest. It was pretty cool. While there, I decided to get some quick pictures of the local system, AMTRAN, before I hopped on the train. I was hoping for some Orion Is, but they didn't run to the center.

So, I had to make due with Gilligs.

I was kind of surprised at the sparsity of service at the Transportation Ctr, but apparently now (?) they have a lot of routes radiating out of Logan Valley Mall, rather than going all the way into the transportation center.

By the way, AMTRAN is celebrating its 50th Anniversary!

Here are the pics - all are at the transportation center:

Apparently, AMTRAN dropped its route numbering system. Now, all routes are referred to by letters and destination. This results in having routes like the EE East End bus:

Amtran also runs some Gillig Advantages. They seem to be the very old version, with the flat windshield:

Juniata PRR E-7

Those Juniata beauties are E8's. The easiest spotting feature is the long, stainless steel grilles along the top of the carbody, which as-built E7's didn't have. Below shot of PRR 5701 at RR Museum of PA is not mine:

That is a very nice complex when I went there last year! No city train system, just the buses for a little city in the midst of nowhere!

Yeah, this was my first time going to Railfest. It was a nice event, although I've heard complaints about some of the disorganization this year. Apparently, the museum changed management.

However, there's nothing like taking the R5 Malvern Express to Altoona!
