The R40 got chopped down to A division specs! The R-36 (model) was shorter than the R-40 model. The chopping on the R-36 has been more subtle. We did in fact make the R-40 to be more than 15% longer than the R-36, but most of that space got taken up by the slant cab, which is twice as slanted as it is supposed to be in real life. If the R-40 model had been any longer, it wouldn't have fit in an A-division car for transport. You'd think a cardboard mockup wouldn't involve so much actual engineering. AEM7AC |

The cars lacked roofs (rooves?) due to added weight and higher damage possibility. If it had a roof, it would have definitely been ripped to shreds by the end of the day. But, believe it or not, the cars felt heavy at times. You realize that if we were using the cahs again and not reefing them, then I'm gonna have to make some engineering changes. First thing on that list would be lateral braces for the R-36, followed by roof reinforcements for both. Are we still eBaying the cahs? AEM7AC |

My 6-year-old son wants to know why "the Slant is signed up as an A"...I was going to say this was a conference committee decision, but it really wasn't. It was very late in the day (like 9:30PM) when I was making the bullets. I toyed with the idea of putting W or B on it, but these really weren't appropriate bullets. W didn't exist back in the pre-GOH days. B ran up the Washington Heights IND and woulda had a blue bullet (had circular bullets been in use back then). So neither of them woulda been appropriate choices (besides the fact that personally I am really not a fan of the B train). The A-Train, on the other hand, is world famous. You wouldn't have guessed how many people yelled "Take the A Train", "Rockaways 4eva!", and other such things as we walked down the boardwalk. Besides, R-40's were first deployed on... you guessed it, A and F trains on Fulton/Washington Heights and Queens/Culver IND. |

Listen guy, i know enough about structures. Thomas Edison was self taught too. You are very young, and you have to realize that anything is possible, you just have to think, and believe. If i had a shop and resources, i could build a railcar. Would take planning, and design, but i could do it. The most difficult part would be the mmetalgurrical part, like casting the steel, and making the steel for the car bodies. |

If i had a shop and resources...Years ago, I thought like that too. Something they told me about how anyone can be successful if they worked hard enough or whatever. Then I got older. I guess luck is kind of on your side. The US of A is still the best place in the world to have a rags-to-riches story. This is the only place on the planet where you are truly judged by nothing more than your net worth. Regardless of background, race, religious conviction, and even sexual orientation, you will be considered successful if you earn lots of money. Doesn't really even matter how you earned the money, whether through moral or immoral means, legal or illegal means, pawn shop or pyramid scheme, etc. etc. If you have the money, you will have the respect. Anyway, if not, you can hire a PR firm to buy you some respect. You millenials need a reality check. Getting the money (and/or getting there -- to the riches) is the hard part. Hurry up and get that roof together. Start small, you know? And if you really did that, you'd get some respect, and someone on this board might want to help you take the next step! Until then, you and I both are just full of hot air. |
