Posted by Deaks on Sun Feb 24 06:46:02 2008 Seems like photos haven't been in short supply of late, but no matter - here's some I took at the beginning of last week in Bucharest, Romania. They have a large tram system there, and a four-line metro which is in the process of expansion. It's reasonably interesting although Bucharest itself is a first-class, top-of-the-tree, cast iron filth hole.... Modern Bombardier Metro train at Piata Victorei. These are articulated throughout and are in the majority.  Another one, at Dristor-2 terminal. Line M1 operates in a sort of P-shape, so Dristor is both a terminal for trains on this line and a through station about 30 minutes before/after, if that makes sense.  Meanwhile the older stock is used sparingly on main-line route M1 and universally on shuttle-type lines M3 and M4. As can be seen the older kit is on the receiving end of some trouble with the local graffiti artists. This at 1 Mai on line M4.  There is a train under there, somewhere....  Trams are widespread, and most of the fleet is home-built, such as this articulated car.  But some have been modified and had a facelift. On some of the modified cars the middle section is low-floor. This one's at Piata Unirii, which seems to serve as the city's focal point.  Another non-modified articulated car. Had to mind the wandering drunks, begging children, stray dogs and abandoned cars when taking this one. More to come as and when, of trams in Timisoara and some Romanian Railways shots too. |
