I wondered that myself after a recent trip to Montreal.One T/O suggested that NYCTA wants to treat everyone like little childen. If TA is spending so much money on these uniforms, it should be an issue in upcoming contract talks, and fare hike opposition. Uniforms are a cost that benefit no one. Especially motormen and TSS's. |

We have a new vendor (I forget the name), but the selection isn't that great.We get an assistant conductor hat badge with our employee number issued upon completion of class, then approx. 2 years later we have to pass a conductor promotion exam. After passing that, we get a conductor hat badge issued. We're supposed to wear whatever is appropriate, unless one gets lost or broken. We don't have tie clips or belt buckles. |

I would expect that to cost more - it is a highly customized product with a limited quantity. I would imagine the MTA uniforms to be mass produced in comparison, lowering the fixed cost of any special setups per item.If OTOH the cost is for a multiple number of jackets, shirts and pants for the employee then it is reasonable. The article isn't clear on that. |

I think that RTO employees should have large, well lit, clean, and well stocked FUNCTIONAL restrooms. It is an OSHA violation not to have proper restrooms, and it is the Union's Fault for not cracking down on the MTA on this issue in behalf of its members. That being said, Bring about 20 or 50 feet of the stuff, folded up neatly and stowed inside of your cap between the plastic headliner and the cloth top cover, or else in a closed Baggie. This is just a scam that every several years a new uniform is designed, issued and then changed again.Must be a MTA board member looking out for a family member or friend who owns a uniform company or stock in one. For years bus operators wore blue uniforms, then in 1997 we changed to gray pants and then several years later back to blue. Since I've been a DOb employee we had several uniform companies. When I started in 1995 they had tailors who custom fitted your uniforms at Walnut depot, and I can't imagine they costed as much as a large faceless company that makes crap. I spend at least $150 a year on my own pants and shirts when the crap issued to us shreds to pieces. |

They're too big to fit on a home roller anyway.It's that stereotype about transit workers you seem to have. Like I said before, when an RTO crew room runs out of tp, people ask, "Who stole the toilet paper"? No one stole it. It's the only section of TA that has this problem. Neglect is the cause, not theft. |
