The R would be a bad line to extend.SAS OTOH wouldnt. Much of the current subway has no need for 600 foot trains as it is. The need for such length is generally within or near the CBD, be the train from Far Rockaway or Tottenville. |

If you extend the R toStaten Island, you are extending a capability to run 8-car 75' trains, or 10-car 60 foot trains, if we assume the R46s have been replaced by the time the tunnel to SI opens for business.If you extend the SAS, you are doing the same thing: extending a line than runs 10-car trains with 60' cars. So what distinction are you making between the two |
