THE TAKING OF PELHAM 123 |
|
Posted by BEDT26 on Wed Aug 29 20:44:11 2007 Dispite of all the inaccuracies of that movie it's still the best NYC subway movie ever filmed, I love it. As a matter of fact I'm watching it right now. :) |

The Warriors is a close #2, even if it depicts the system at it's lowest point. I used to have a VHS copy and I'd always speed past everything to see the scenes in the system, like some dude watching a porno looking for the money shot(s). |

So they got hijacked someplace on the Lexington Ave Line and the hijackers got out near 14th St. or something and then somehow the train crossed over from the East side to the West side? I guess a lot of movie details wouldn't make sense if you scrutinize it like that. Like for example how they had to go outside the car and work on the car while the 3rd rails are live and then somehow the deadman got disconnected because they worked on the trucks? Makes no sense... |

The only redeeming factor was the more accurate portrayal of the rigging for the getaway. It was true to the novel. In the novel, the front cab window is broken out in order to join two pieces of pipe together. My guess is that in the original, they had to take a few liberties because the TA probably refused to allow a window to be busted out of a revenue active car. OTOH the cars used in the remake were about to be scrapped, so TTC probably didn't care if they broke out a window.Other than that, the remake is terrible. Wooden acting throughout; the players seem to be going through the motions. |

In the novel, a heavy iron mold was placed down over the controller, deactivating the deadman's feature. Three lenghts of pipe were joined together in such a way that the controller could be moved from the outside into series position. The catch was that in order to join the pipes together, the front window had to be broken out. The TA probably didn't allow that, so they had to take a few liberties. |
