#12 Main Line

#1 Red Line (all Red Line pics at Charles/MGH)

#2 Red Line

#3 Red Line

#4 East Boston

Also, on the Blue Line, the MBTA has posted posters stating that the current #4 East Boston stock will begin to be retired vby next spring at the very latest.

That always interested about Boston. Four subway lines (counting the Green Line), four different fleets.

Very nice pix, BTW.

Supposedly, the first Siemens Blue Line cars have arrived. Did you see them?

I think I saw them, but I'm not sure. All I know is that next time up there, the current #4 stock will likely be gone.

Hmm, I'd better get around to photographing the current #4s, then, if I get the opportunity.

Did you apply for a photo permit, or not? As far as I understand, you don't need them anymore, but the police will still question you and ask for ID.

Sad to see the 1979 Hawker Siddeley 0600s go. They are basically PA3s with pantographs.

MBTA subway trains rarely operate with headlights on, so it is obvious to me that the motorman in the Orange Line train in the first photo has his headlights on high beam to try and ruin your photograph. That's an old anti-railfan trick among T workers - too bad it doesn't work in full sun!

Forget it. The two cars there currently have not passed testing after at least 6 months. See the Railroad.net MBTA page for more info.

Oops. Maybe they will actually be accepted. Last I checked, they were still on the orange line, but now it seems they are testing on the blue line.

Sometimes, it does depend on the equipment.

Here is a pic from last year, taken with a Kodak EasyShare CX7330.

Now, here is that same spot, taken with a Canon Powershot A550, with the cloudy setting (which I find to have the best color management, even when sunny):

The difference is night and day.

Most trains operate with headlights on in tunnels -- I've seen that all the time. They turn them off when entering stations, though.

That must be new - I used to commute on the Red Line and it was rare to see a train with the headlights on.
