Nicknames Of The Subway Lines |
|
Posted by E Line Fan on Thu May 17 14:45:38 2007 Need just a wee bit of education, please. I'm familiar with the Never or Nancy, the Rarely and the Whenever. Which lines are the Three Stooges - Curly, Larry, Moe, Shemp? Are these the Centre Street Loop Lines - (J), (M), (Z)? "Take The A Train"! |

The Three Stooges lines are, quite fittingly:J - Curly (real name Jerome, later played by Joe DeRita) L - Larry M - Moe Z - Schemp or Szemp Since all of these lines encompass the Eastern Division, I've labeled it as the Three Stooges Division. Other nicknames I've come up with: A - Alice B - Barf or Blech C - Chunks D - Dufus, Dumbass E - Eeeewwwwwww F - Fart, Flub, Foulup, Flatulance G - Gag N - Nyuk, nyuk Q - Queer, Queasy R - Ralph S - Soitanly V - Vomit, Vesuvius W - Wimp, Wuss, Worthless, Weak, Weary, Wheezing, Watermelon, Whining, Whatever, Who, Where, Why, Whenever |

The seven numbered IRT lines should not be deprived of nicknames merely for want of a letter. They could be named after the seven dwarfs, the seven deadly sins, or perhaps even the seven wonders of the world. |

In keeping with the spirit of The Honeymooners, you could have N for Norton. I've already included Alice for A and Ralph for R. Too bad the T is no longer used, otherwise Trixie would be included. |

When you stop and think about it, since the N and R share quite a bit of common trackage, Norton and Ralph are adequate nicknames.I'm not quite ready to label the Southern Division as the Honeymooners Division, though. After all, the Kramdens and Nortons lived in Three Stooges Division territory (Chauncey St.). |

You've got the:Apple Bravo Charlie Delta Echo Fox George J (no name, just J) Larry (obviously in honor of Mr. Fendrick) Mary or Mikey (both used) Nancy or November (both used) Quincy Romeo Shuttle Victor Whiskey Zebra (rarely used...often simply Z) Only IRT line that I know that has a true nickname is the 2 (aka The Beast.) |
