I'm going to Seashore tomorrow and can take some railfans with me. I've done this before and if you were a regular you'd know about the summer Seashore trips I run.

Granted I hadn't done it in a few years.

I used to do breakfast at that fried breakfast place in Saugus on Rt.1, but can't really do that anymore without backtracking, besides I could never find that place again despite looking for it in 2005 and 2006 (I think it went out of business).

So if anyone else is coming along tomorrow maybe I'll find a place to stop in NH or Maine for breakfast. Otherwise I'll probably just etq before AM pull-out.

haha, I assume you don't have a ratsmobile... but a more classy form of transportation.

I discovered that my ratsmobile guzzles fuel at more than about 60 mph, so I had it governed at 59 mph to make fuel economy targets.

Are modern automobiles relatively better for fuel economy at higher speed ranges?

If you decide to go tomorrow AM let me know by e-mail before you leave so I can know to look for you.

My ratsmobile has a straight-4 engine and the fuel economy statistics (with 10% ethanol) is roughly:

55mph average = 31 mpg
60mph average = 29 mpg
65mph average = 26 mpg
70mph average = 23 mpg

I have not been able to sustain 75mph average even on a test-run. Too many cops. Even on the Merritt Pahkway there is always hidden cops around Westport.

I've been in a birthday pahty in the SOAC ;-)
(Not my birthday.)

SOAC isn't actually all that cool. It's just another subway cah. The half that got the AC motors is definitely not operable. The half that got the DC motors might be restorable, I don't know. But then anything is restorable with a big enough budget. What I'd actually do with that cah is to put a R-160 traction package underneath it and it'd be instantly operable.

But I don't have the $1 million or so for a set of spare Alstom Onyx...

Of course! It's called sticking a new truck and traction subsystem under an old shell. There are companies that do this, like Gomaco Trolley (google it).

Price is about $1 million to $1.5 million per car. ($750,000 if a trolley.)
