I've never seen pictures of 1036 before. It looks like a good candidate for restoration (of whatever sort), to be sure. Is it going to be tarped? From the photos those window frames look a little iffy for a car destined to be stored outside. It's certainly an attractive car - I believe this is the only really "standard" (to the extent possible) Kuhlman Peter Witt preserved out of the many cars that were built.* Frank Hicks *The two Detroit Witts preserved, though built to a design similar to the Kuhlman standard, had huge ungainly sign boxes and were built by SLCC anyway. |

Plans are to build a pole supported roof over the car in the Spring. The window frames will receive attention at that time as well. |

The front of your Peter Witt looks much like our B&QT Peter Witts preserved at Branford and TMNY. Breifly, what was the recent history of this car ?Bill "Newkirk" |

Where are those Detroit cars? One, 3865, is at the Illinois Railway Museum on static display: The other, 3876, is at the Ohio Railway Museum in dead storage. (This image is from the early 1970's.) The car was used as a camp on Oneida Lake until the '80s. Since then it was in the possession of the Plank Road Historical Society on North Syracuse, NY. On Dec.1,2006 it was delivered to the Central NY Chapter, NRHS at its Central Square museum. |
