Forced to agree with you. For a journalist he doesn't seem to be very concerned with rights to public information. He also is addressing an issue that is better dealt with by the MTA itself. No one is going to take these comments in the newspaper seriously, on the contrary if someone recieved a polite letter from the MTA asking a webmaster to take information about an emergecny plan or something obviously sensitive then that may be quite a bit more effective.Comments? |

They had plenty of "mystery meat" when I was there too which is why I took what I did instead of sitting the board ... most of the "popup jobs" were out in the east and Stillwell was enough of an unpaid deadhead from the north Bronx as it was. Took less time to take the bus over the bridge than ride the rails out to there. :( |

As someone who worked in urinalism, the problem is that once upon a time you were GIVEN enough time to do some research, and were given a "beat" whereby you had your own level of semi-expertise which you could draw on. You'd start doing "police blotter" stuff and hang out in courthouses and get an idea of how things worked. That way when a crime story came up and the perp was issued a desk ticket instead of a ride downtown, you knew that they didn't have enough to "book'em Dan-O" and so you'd decide whether or not the story was worth ink. You knew the cops you needed to know and you'd honor the "don't print anything just yet" ...What happened over time is fewer reporters having to cover more and more things under tight time pressures. No time to really dig very deeply and a need to just get a quote you could print and move on from the subway story to the lost puppy story to the "nurse run over by a taxi" story. Experts need not apply. :( |
