I think he got a suspension.
Ever noticed the first few people pictured just happened to be members of the TWU? I think it was a set up. Especially since it was a few months before contract negotations.

I would have to disagree with you on the "set up" part. That's not that hard to find. That's a reason I don't work midnights, even with 8 hours sleep. I can't do it. Your body fights you, at least mine does. I had to do it for 3 months and it wasn't easy. I couldn't sleep in my position anyhow. Fighting that nodding off part at 4 in the morning is a pain in the ass. You have to get used to it. I do feel for the guys that have to work midnights for family obligations but, you know, it doesn't give you the right to sleep. I feel for you guys in the booth, BORING.

Oh absolutely, and everyone has a bad day. However, I am just against the idea that people think they have a "right" to sleep, just because they are working the midnight shift, or they have the "right" to sleep just becaue they worked 18 years. That's where it's wrong. People aren't paid to sleep in the booth, and don't have the right to sleep, whether they wwork 3 in the afternoon, or 3 in the morning; if they worked 18 months, or 18 years.

Perhaps, but again, that was not a job in a token booth (or whatever they call the booths now), where it's not one of the "duties".
There may be other jobs where it doesn't matter if the person is a wake. A booth isn't one of them. Otherwise people would just be walking under or over the turnstiles as the station agent snores in the booth.

From what I was told, The track connection was severed. (Removed the rails for one rail length or so) Bumping blocks at the south end of the lower level of 9th ave by the portal were not put in until the late 90's!

Working the "swing" shift is even worse, IMHO. I worked from 4 PM to 12 AM for about 3 years and it was an ordeal. It's easier to reverse your days and nights completely than it is to go to sleep at sunrise and wake up again in the afternoon.

If I worked until midnight, I'd probably go to sleep when I get home (let's say by 1:00), and then get up 8 or 9:00AM. I usually go to bed 12:00 or 1:00 now, and I work a normal hours job (at most times of year, except the two times of year I work two jobs, but that's another story).

I found going to bed at sunrise was no big deal back in 1994.
The most difficult thing was sleeping in the afternoon when sunlight was pouring thru my bedroom window. Get past the late afternoon and I found it easy to leave for work at 9PM at night. Then again I'd work 1 or both of my days off so I'd avoid reverting back to normal time.

That's what I thought. You're body doesn't work like that. You'll need 3-4 hours at least to unwind before you can sleep. Those were 3 lost years for me, since I slept or worked through the most important parts of the day and night, and I functioned when most of the world did not.

However, it's the perfect work schedule for someone active on the club scene.

The week I worked the Culver in 1969, I had a 3 car train of R-16s. The car at the north end of my train was one of the few that had Southern Div BMT numbrered route signs in the original route box, so instead of displaying "SS" on the new route sign which was now in the destination box, I blanked that one out and displayed "5 Culver" on the route sign.

Actually, in the early 1960s when the modified Low-Vs were running on the Culver, the northbound track was used as the single track for the shuttle and was routed into the center tack at 9 Av. Why this was done, Im not sure unless it was to prepare the southbound track for its eventual use as the only shuttle track.
