It does matter when your train gets held at a timepoint for 5-6 minutes at Times Square which is a serious problem on the 2 and 3.

One strategy the MTA has used to improve terminal-to-terminal on time performance has been to pad schedules. Initially, this took the form of adding a 4 or 5 minute holding time at the next to last station. They have varied their technique a bit by varying which station the use for the holding time. It's been a long time since I calculated the percentage holding time is of run time.

Nothing new with padding schedules. Just about every transit system and airlines engage in padding. With Metro North, the padding was a big factor in their achieving their "95% on time performance".

MNRR still does it.

I just took a quick look at the weekend schedule.

GCT to Mt Vernon East is pretty much always 28 minutes. Mt Vernon East to GCT is 31 minutes.

Sure. When I started commuting 30 years ago off-peak trains from Riverdale to GCT were 24-28 minutes. Now they are 31-36 minutes.

No.

Service was increased to the RO, Huntington and West Hempstead lines throughout the day and peak service to Midtown was increased by almost a third.

Most Brooklyn trains merely replace diverted Far Rock and Hempstead trains now going to GCM.

The Brooklyn shuttles merely replaced service forced to go there for over a century due to capacity limits at NYP. They aren't new trains.

Prior to GCM there was only hourly off peak service to Huntington and RO. Now it's 30 minutes. As for peak service, 90% of non diesel thru service thru Jamaica is now headed for Manhattan. That's a 20% increase over pre GCM levels. Most of these are extra trains, not replacements for Brooklyn service.

People need to stop saying there was no service increases because that is a lie.

Not sure how you draw that erroneous conclusion. Whatever your fevered mind thinks, construction of Penn Station Access is well underway.

You have reading comprehension issues. Chris never said that there was NO decrease in LIRR service to Penn.

MOST GCT trains are either new trains or replace trains that formerly went to Brooklyn. But NOT ALL of them.

They could have done half hourly Ronkonkoma and Huntington service without Grand Central, the LIRR chose not to and hoodwinked us with that to pretend it was an increase when it really was not

"A militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves and render regular troops in a great measure unnecessary."
Nothing wrong with that wording if you read Richard Henry Lee and what he wrote about militias.

LIRR promised half hourly Ronkonkoma service when they did the double track project, then reneged on it. LIRR had half hourly Ronkonkoma service during the 2009 US Open at Bethpage Black. They found a way.

Off peak Penn had capacity. It was peak periods that was the issue. Not off peak and weekends.
