Old IRT Signal Diagrams

Posted by Q65A on Wed Jan 22 09:19:25 2025

From jonroma.net, an excellent resource for railway signaling,
When you open the link, scroll down to the entry for New York City Board of Transportation.
There you will find signal diagrams (dated from the late 1940s) for several IRT lines:

Great stuff, thanks.

One question - the 1947 Map of the Lexington/4th Avenue IRT line appears to show that the southbound local track from Brooklyn Bridge did not physically connect with the southbound track at Fulton Street (there is a gap in the diagram). We know that there was once was a connection, since the 6 train used to run to South Ferry, but that the connection wasn't physically severed until the 1960's and perhaps later than that. So why does the map show that the tracks were not connected? Is it just a reproduction error?

Thanks, Mitch.
Not sure why the track layout south of BB is depicted as it is.
Maybe one of our other posters might have insight into this.

When 6 trains ran to South Ferry they used the crossovers north of Brooklyn Bridge station to reach the express track and platform.

The tracks are connected. Take a good look and you will see that there are switch numbers on those tks N/O Fulton St.
