Thanks for sharing this enlightening piece especially for those like me who are ignorant re. MX yards. That the Kawasakis' fail 8 times more than the "newest" trains was an eye opener and I am curious as to failure rates of other equipment in the current fleet. No matter, you take together the R62s with the crumbling/inefficient infrastructure at 240th and Livonia and that is a problem for everyone (commuters, workers, etc.) Why were the yards not updated some time ago, even before the latest capital expenditure plan? Perhaps lack of foresight or availability of funds or political machinations or a combination or something else entirely. The article informed me but beyond that I am just writing as someone with limited knowledge.

Wow. They’ve gone from being horrified the R-32s were around to now shredding up the 62s. The R142 ain’t far behind.

Upgrading a yard and repair shop is a big investment.

Livonia renovations would be a big headache. The yard serves the 2, 3, 4, and 5 lines. Even if the money is available, it would require major disruptions in service that no one, including passengers, wants to deal with.

Exactly, The article even has the details of the 96th St collision completely backwards.
