Tuscarora Almanac for January 11

1955 – from The Book of First Runs

This is the first day of operation of the R-16’s in passenger service.
An eight car train running as a BMT #15 Jamaica Local left 168 Street-Jamaica Terminal in Queens at 10:00 AM and consisted of 6404,6407,6402,6400,6409,6403,6401,6408.

1958 - from The Book of Last Runs

The operation of Rail Diesel Cars (RDC’s) on the Susquehanna Railroad is discontinued. The four RDC-1’s; M-1 through M-4, were acquired by the Jersey Central and re-numbered in order to 558 through 561. RDC 559 along with sister 557 made the last passenger run on CNJ’s Newark Branch on April 29, 1967.

The late Karl B remembered that when the R-16s were new, people loved them. IMHO they would have fared a lot better had they never left the Three Stooges Division. The good folks at ENY shops knew how to take care of them.
