And this map shows why if the SAS goes across 125, there should be a connection to the 8th Avenue line at St. Nicholas, even if it's only used at first for GO's and emergencies. |

They should create such a connection, but the odds are against it. The way the MTA builds things, it would probably cost at least an extra billion dollars, maybe even a whole lot more. Look at what it cost to connect the 63 St tunnel to Queens Blvd, and that was started over twenty years ago. We'll probably be fortunate to see an extension just north to 125 St, much less anywhere across town. When it comes to subway construction, New York is much the "can't do" city and state. If the subway does make it across town, don't hold out much hope for a connection to 8 Ave. It will just be too expensive. |
