Tuscarora Almanac for November 5 |
|
Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Tue Nov 5 08:22:14 2024 Tuscarora Almanac for November 5 1888 – from the Books of First Runs and Wrecks November 5 – The first section of the 5th Avenue El opens between Atlantic Avenue and the Fulton Ferry Terminal on the Old Main Line. The line runs north along Flatbush Avenue and Hudson Avenue. It joins the Old Main Line at Park Avenue. November 6 – Service is discontinued to a collision between a 5th Avenue El and a Myrtle Avenue El train at the grade crossing of Hudson Avenue and Myrtle. The line re-opens on June 21, 1889 with 5th Avenue trains re-routed onto the Myrtle Avenue Line going towards Jay Street. 1916 – from The Book of First Runs The IRT Queensboro Line is extended from Hunters Point Avenue to Queensboro Plaza. 1946 – from The Book of Last Runs This is the last day of service on the IRT Bergen Avenue Cutoff. The cutoff had been used by 2nd Avenue - Freeman Street Elevated trains until 1940 and then by the 3rd Avenue - Freeman Street trains. It allowed them to bypass the busy 149 Street Station. Randy, I never saw a photo of 3rd Ave-Freeman St service, so I don't know. Anyone here know how many cars were used on the Bergen Cutoff by 3rd Ave trains, after Unification? |
