Once a service is gone, it's almost impossible to get it back.We see this today looking at the Northern Branch extension of the Hudson Bergen Light rail system. The Newark Subway extension to Elizabeth and Newark Liberty Airport using the old Row from Raymond Blvd portal. Even a simple Path extension one mile to Ironbound. North Jersey should have an expensive rail system with connections to the NYC rails, subways since it is unofficially the "6th borough" of NYC. |

The Greenwood Lake branch had been operating a shuttle to Mountain View, at which point passengers changed trains to Hoboken. Freight service lasted quite a bit longer; I remember seeing short freight trains on the single track through Pompton Plains the entire time we lived there. |
