Tuscarora Almanac for September 12

Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Thu Sep 12 10:03:35 2024

Tuscarora Almanac for September 12

1963 – from The Book of Wrecks

A small single engine passenger plane crashes into the Coney Island Yard. The pilot had already bailed out and the landed in an open area of the yard.

1971 – from The Book of Last Runs

This will be the last day of operation for Palisades Amusement Park located in Fort Lee, New Jersey. The park sat on a nearly forty acre site high atop the Palisades. The park featured a narrow gauge railroad and a monorail as well as the “Cyclone” roller coaster.

Thanks to Steve B-8 Av Exp for bringing this to our attention.

Steve: "Skip the bother and skip the fuss. Take a Public Service bus. Public Service sure is great. It takes you right up to the gate."

This was a promo for Palisades Park that played relentlessly on the radio stations.

One Public Service bus left from the PABT. Another left from the George Washington Bus Station.

I'm sure that there were other routes as well.

There was also an Orange and Black route that went there - from the PABT, *IF* I remember correctly. But it was a while ago.

The one time I went to Palisades, we took a bus from the George Washington terminal. I remember there being a bunch of other buses when we arrived, of different makes and colors.

Intercity Bus Company, I presume? We rode on those every Saturday for three years.
