Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Mon Sep 9 13:37:29 2024 Tuscarora Almanac for September 9 1940 – from The Book of Last Runs Due to declining ridership the New York Central Railroad discontinues passenger service on the Kaaterskill and Hunter Branches. The final run is made by Train No. 634 bound for Phoenicia. 1946 – from The Book of First Runs This is the final day of operation of the Fairmount Park Trolley. The Fairmount Park Trolley operated in the park of the same name in Philadelphia. It began operating in 1896 and ran year round. The total length of the line was a little over eight miles and had about seventy cars. 1956 – from The Book of First Runs Philadelphia’s Broad Street subway is extended north one stop from Olney to a new terminal at Fern Rock. Fern Rock is the only station on the line that is above ground. 1964 – from The Book of First Runs A train of brand new R-32 A's operated under its own power on the New York Central Railroad from Mott Haven Yard to Grand Central Terminal. The consist was (n) 3356-7, 3360-1, 3350-1, and 3353-2. The R-32 A's (3350-3649) were the third class of stainless steel subway cars built by the Edward G. Budd Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the New York City subway system. (The first two were the Zephyr and the R-11’s) 1991 – from The Book of First Runs New Jersey Transit places the Waterfront Connection in service. This allows trains to operate directly between Pennsylvania Station /Newark and Hoboken. 2016 – from The Book of First Runs Streetcar service returns to Cincinnati, Ohio with the opening a 3.6 mile light rail line running between Henry Street and 2nd Street. The new line is known as Route 100 Cincinnati Bell Connector and it serves 18 stations. There are currently five three-section articulated cars providing service. They were built by CAF USA and are rostered as 1175-1179. Streetcars last ran in the Queen City on April 28, 1951. Thanks to Mr.Transit Chuck G bringing this event to our attention. Three of those pairs of R-32s are still with us, too!On that very same day, 9/9/64, I started second grade. Seven years later, I started high school on that same date. |
