But you only have to walk in order to access a train. It’s like a horizontal elevator. Right but it's not for most people. Often "sabbath elevators" exist that don't require pressing buttons (they work like vertical local trains just automatically stopping at every floor) but granted that doesn't occur on the NYC subway system - presumably most people trying to take the nostalgia train can just use stairs.If carrying fare payment / device counts as a sabbath violation (as the first item on Spider Pig's list seems to indicate depending on how strict it gets) then the last technical way to get on the train would be to arrange for someone not observing the sabbath in the same way to meet or accompany the sabbath-observer to the subway station and swipe/tap them in. Thankfully for this case, the NYC subway doesn't require carrying proof of payment. |
