Holiday Nostalgia train runs again

From the NYTM, the Nostalgia train of R1/9s will be running on Saturdays in December (Dec 2,9, 16, 23 and 30). The route will be from 2 Av on the F to the 145 St station on the D.

The train will be making express stops on 6 Av and along Central Park West.

The departure times are:

2 Av - 10 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM and 4PM
145 St - 11 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM and 5 PM

Boarding at 145 St will be on the downtown platform EXCEPT on Dec 2 it will be on the uptown platform.

I wonder if all nine cars will be running. THAT would be a treat! Didn't 1000 just had its wheels turned due to flat spots?

The notice from the Transit Museum clearly states all 5 Saturdays in December.

They did not say the Saturday after Thanskgiving.

Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov 23. That makes the following Saturday, Nov 25.

This year the trips start on Dec 2.

Maybe I feel that always running the nostalgia train on Sundays year after year is an antisemitic plot against the Christians on their Sabbath?

Bill, while Christians are permitted to travel on Sundays, Orthodox Jews are forbidden to travel on their Sabbath! (Saturday)

Orthodox Jews are forbidden to travel on their Sabbath! (Saturday)

 But could walk.

I was under the impression it was not to work, not drive, or handle

a team of horses, or press elevator buttons, or use money in exchanges

for services.

It's still a pity that so many side destination signs were pilfered from those cars. Even the Three Stooges Division curtains on 401 weren't immune.

It’s not. But you only have to walk in order to access a train. It’s like a horizontal elevator. No driving or button-pressing needed.
The only “work” involved is fare payment - not sure what the options are for that.

Right but it's not for most people. Often "sabbath elevators" exist that don't require pressing buttons (they work like vertical local trains just automatically stopping at every floor) but granted that doesn't occur on the NYC subway system - presumably most people trying to take the nostalgia train can just use stairs.

If carrying fare payment / device counts as a sabbath violation (as the first item on Spider Pig's list seems to indicate depending on how strict it gets) then the last technical way to get on the train would be to arrange for someone not observing the sabbath in the same way to meet or accompany the sabbath-observer to the subway station and swipe/tap them in. Thankfully for this case, the NYC subway doesn't require carrying proof of payment.
