C3 was probably dead so the regular consist was towing it to a maintenance facility

"dutchman".

I will burn this nomenclature into my few remaining brain cells.

It looks to be quite substantial and require more than a single person to place in position.

Is there a similar unit for use with subway cars, as in the case of Staten Island snowstorm, when diesels hauled R/44's ?

CSX picked up 1 of the MARC units for use on their Track Geometry train, the MBCR leased MARC power was finally sent back to
MPI in Boise ID as rebuild fodder after spending some time at Seaview yard.
Because LIRR did the weird thing by combining the MU and Door Comm into 1 cable, figure on some new adapter cable to allow
the MARC Cab Cars to work with the DE-30's(MU only,no Door Comm)

I also saw (one of my ex classmates) do a common sin.. He took the jumper off the shoe before the other part was taken off the rail… OMG the light show…. He was a wise azz anyway..

Now, what were the results of a C-3 Cab car heading MARC coaches and DE#413?

It would seem No MARC cars were modified, as per contract.

That’s within a single car. The 3rd rail current doesn’t go to another car.

Yes, I am aware of that but we were talking about a car bridging a gap. I was describing what would happen is a car bridged a gap between a live 3rd rail and one with no power. Sorry we misunderstood each other.

I agree, but I doubt that there are any 3rd rail gaps on the system that short that they would energize another section.

With the aprons on the switches behind 179th St. with 75 foot cars it can happen on a main line section easily. It has happened in yards even with 60 foot cars.

The gaps that can be bridged by 75 ft cars are still within the same 3rd rail section so bridging them is of no consequence. 3rd rail gaps between actual different sections are long enough so that a single car won't energize a dead section.
