Those gleaming 32s look like they just rolled off the manufacturing assembly line.On a related/minor note, can you tell me what is the purpose of the small, circular element contained within a rectangular bracket which is located above the pantograph gates to the right of the door near the top of the horizontal tubing?  |

Hiya, Cortelyounext (United Van Lines Driver) Congrats on the new contract.From what I have been told, that is an indicator light that shows how the train is zoned up for the Conductor`s position. C train 8 cars long, the light would be lit in the fourth and fifth cars of the consist, when the passenger doors are closed. Not unlike the the sidestick priority light on the glareshield of your former fleet(Airbus). Hope that helps. Hope all is well. The Lurkers` Guild A.K.A. Cactus |

Ah yes, the sidestick priority light, the interpretation of which actually confused some of the younger, or should I say inexperienced, pilots. I am sure you know American is following suit re. contract compensation.Airbus - The Electric Jet A320 First Officer: "Why is it doing that?" A320 Captain: "It's doing that." I am not around much anymore but all is well, Cactus, and same to you. Try to stay cool and hydrated out there. |

To make it simple it is the C/R’s indication light that illuminates when all the doors are closed in that section. It has been in that location on all NYCTA cars since the R-16s till the R-40s came along when the C/R’s button board in the cab had indication light for both sections. Prior to that the button board had the indication light for that section. The external indication light was to make it eaeir for the C/R to ensure that the doors were closed in the opposite section. |
