Just moving the surplus M cars is much easier. Or maybe these cars are usually stored in Jamaica overnight and they wanted the space so that they could better serve what is left on the E/F/R. |

Moreover, the need to do all of the car transfers cost money. Why do that, when you could just transfer the M cars already in Jamaica yard to 207? No need to swap out 179s in ENY to the C.. And move the M cars to the J/Z. It won't be enough anyway. I'm wondering why the MTA decided to close the 57th st station on weekends. Why not just run the M there 24/7? |

No…TA don’t want to pay for the crew cost and most likely those “numbers people” say it’s not worth it… They go by numbers down here if the numbers don’t fit they just don’t do it… |

Using the (M) during 63rd Street shutdown |
|
Posted by Wallyhorse on Sun Aug 27 21:05:21 2023, in response to Re: R160s are back on the C line, posted by Railman718 on Sun Aug 27 12:04:03 2023. And 57th/6th could have been covered anyway by having a single (M) train cut into two four-car trains (with one four-car train in service and one backup) during the night-weekend period the way there used to be a (B) shuttle between 47-50 and 57/6 late nights using the one track they are able to use during this at other times anyway.I would also have looked at for at least weekends (and even possibly late nights) to extend the (M) to West 4th and use the express tracks to terminate while running the (D) local between West 4th and 34th. That would have allowed for transfers to other lines at Broadway-Lafayette and West 4th. |

I know that, however, there are those who don't want to have to take the Broadway line to 34th and walk all of the stairs they have to in order to do the transfer there. That's where there used to be the late-night (B) shuttle that such here on nights and weekends would repricate. |

Yeah, I know, and I've been saying That myself for awhile now. Now, there won't be Any M service ANYWHERE for the rest of this week and into the next! I'm guessing that it's crunch time for all the G.O around the system, trying to get as much work done Now before the cold sets in. Also isn't the JMZ coming up on a major Go, shutting the bridge traffic down for a bit? |

There have been extended periods in the past where Dyre service was cut back to a shuttle for each and every weekend.Certainly not all 52 weekends for a year, but I'm sure it felt like that on occasion. |
