Hoty-Schermerhorn has been used in many films over the years, either playing itself as in Crocodile Dundee II, or disguised as other stations in films such as The Warriors and Nighthawks. It was probably used in the original Pelham 1-2-3 film, too.

The Hoyt tiles on the south wall (east-bound platform) have been covered over with various station names. I recall seeing Franklin and others, some of which may still be there, even years after they were installed and used.

These notes and photos are from nycsubway.org:

Date: 5/19/2008
Notes: Mocked up car (R-62 masquerading as R-142) for the film shoot.

Date: 4/29/2009
Notes: Abandoned side platform tiled up as 51 St for a movie or tv shoot.

If you go frame-by-frame in Nighthawks during the subway scene at H-S as the IND old timers are pulling out, you can see a platform sign marked, Hoyt-Schermerhorn from inside the train when the station was disguised as 57th St.

I'm still curious as to which car got its storm door window kicked out by Sylvester Stallone in that film. It was an R-1 or R-4 since the storm door in question had one large pane of glass. Definitely not 103 since you can see ceiling fans. 800 was part of that train. The camera was positioned so that the car number above the strom door wasn't visible.

Just thought I’d throw this in here.

The signs on the walls of Hoyt-Schermerhorn that were covered with signs that read Franklin & Wall Street, were used for the filming of a short lived CBS TV series from 1999, called Now and Again, starring Eric Close & Dennis Haysbert.

R68 cars were used for the #2 train.

Episodes 3, entitled “Over Easy”, just about 28 minutes in. It has been posted on YouTube, right here.

Mostly looks like Hoyt Schermerhorn station. Can see some closed entrances too.

Last bit with the long passages might by Union Square but I'm not sure where exactly in the complex.

I thought they used the lower level of 9th Avenue for the scene in Crocodile Dundee (the 1986 original).

They did Wally: One scene was shot at Hoyt-Schemerhorm, another was shot at 9 Avenue lower level.

The platform is definitely Hoyt-Schermerhorn.

They did. It was dressed up as “59th Street - Columbus Circle” but if you look closely, the tiles “9” wall murals are clearly visible.

One of my favorite scenes in a great movie. Pre-GOH R-38s (with Darth Vader brakes, unfortunately, you can't hear them on the soundtrack 😕 )

In the script, looks like Lisa and Akeem boarded at Van Wyck and Lisa got off at Sutphin Blvd (recall the movie was filmed before Archer Av opened, so the E was headed to 179th St). In real life, the southbound track at the Transit Museum "played" Van Wyck. Obviously they cleared out all the cars, then the R-38s were driven all the way to the bumping block, then moved forward so they appeared to be pulling into the station (probably another reason for a 4-car consists, although, I don't know what time of night that was, it could be that the E really was running 4 at that time). Sutphin is actually Hoyt/Schemerhorn, again with the s/b track from the Museum. They probably filmed late at night, but they would not have interfered with regular A and G service.

You might have noticed that the train was moving relatively slowly between Van Wyck and Sutphin the TM and H-S. That was probably to accommodate all the dialog between Akeem and Lisa. I suspect that the M/M was in series the whole way.

Consist was 3972/3, 4033/2. In the film, 3972 was the north motor, but in real life, it was actually traveling RAILROAD south. Only on the NYC subway system 🙂

I'm thinking that the mezzanine scenes--with dancing columns--were shot on a soundstage at Astoria Studios (now Kaufman Astoria Studios).

Are you sure that's the correct scene? I thought this is The Wiz.
