Fresh Pond Yard LIRR tower catches fire

Video from Citizen App (which seems to have been taken by a transit worker) shows the old switch tower on the north side between the M and the Connecting bridges on fire.

While there have been stated to be no injuries, the fire is considered suspicious.

Fully involved or minor?

Definitely not good news. I recall the tower was used for railroad purposes however. Hopefully it can be fixed.

Ah, so that was burning up. I saw heavy black smoke in that direction and fire trucks racing to the scene as I was exiting the CVS at Met/Fresh Pond.

I used to run the stairs at LIRR Fresh Pond. Lots of fires started down there.
