The tracks coming in and out of Woodside are perfectly straight. So that's not Woodside, unless the entire ROW was rebuilt between then and now.

Based on the proximity to the gas tanks (that look like they're still being constructed), I'd say that this station is Hunterspoint Avenue. Yeah, Hunterspoint Avenue only has one platform these days. But back before the LIRR went to Penn Station, and the main terminal was Long Island City, I bet Hunterspoint Avenue had more service, and possibly an extra platform. But I don't know the history of that station.

I was wrong, it is Greenport. Here's the back of the station and you can see it's the same curve although down to one track nowadays.

If you crop and brighten the photo, you can see the same woodwork as in the mystery pic.

Greenport it is!

I agree it's not Woodside.

I'm not sure they are the Elmhurst Gas tanks, but what else could they be? There was a single gas tank just east of Jamaica until the 1970's, but it can't be there.

I would make a guess of Rego Park looking westbound, but I don't think Rego Park had low platforms.

Both photos are Rockaway Park. The thing is the LIRR platform was centered in the station where the current NYCT platform is further over to the right. Where that LIRR platform was is now yard trackage.

That bank is/was part of a "suburban renewal" project for Freeport, but I don't know if it ever panned out. The building is vacant right now.

It is definitely Bethpage there. You are looking west, that is the Central branch veering off under the train to the left. Despite the picture, the tower does not lean. Behind the photographer, about 1/4 mile or less is the Merrit Rd grade crossing. (The engineer's hand is probably already on the whistle chord!) The Incorporated Vilage of Framingdale begins there. The Central Branch veers south into South Farmingdale. The first grade crossing there is Main St. I lived 300' from it. The picture is dated 4/66. I was 14 yrs old and frequently walked the tracks from South Farmingdale - which was a station at the Main St Central Branch crossing - all the way to Bethpage. Very nearly about this time they eliminated the S. Farmingdale stop. I actually "retreived" (stole!) the staion name sign. But alas, over the years my Dad threw it out!

Oh the pain!!!

My friend's father has a "Bellport" station sign, from the 1970's, when they went from the old signs and lamp posts to the "MTA" style. They were all lying in the parking lot in a pile, with all the old lamp posts.....and he only took one!!!!

I found an older style "Manhassett" sign at a yard sale in the 80's, but I have since given that to my cousin's ex-boyfriend....before I knew he would be an "ex". He lived in Manhassett....

The one I had from manhassett was the ones after they had the Pennsy ones, but before the official MTA ones. It was just a reflective white bacground with capital black block letters. The one from Bellport my friend has is also like that.

Well, at least we know that it isn't the East Meadow station on the LIRR -- unless there's an LI version of 76th Street.

I'll take a ride through Freeport and see if any of the buildings look like those in the photo -- that seems like the logical choice at this point.
