"Substitute bus service is being provided "

If a train can't get over the bridge, how does the bus do it? Is Sandra Bullock driving?

The Delair bridge is rail only. It is between the Tacony-Palmyra and Betsy Ross highway bridges.

There was also an Amphicar from West Germany made in the 1960s. I got the spelling correct the first time I looked it up. It was an amphibious car! Passengers could switch to these cars at the Pennsauken Transit Center.

If I recall correctly, in 1964 a Beetle sailed the Strait of Messina in Italy.
As a current owner and former owner of many Beetles I can imagine they would float for a little while but that 238 pound engine will have to drag the back down after a few minutes.
I don’t know if it was a real ad or not but I’ve seen advertisement that stated something like ‘If Ted Kennedy drove a Volkswagen he’d be President today’

"‘If Ted Kennedy drove a Volkswagen he’d be President today’ "

IIRC that was a line lifted from the Harvard Lampoon and never used as an ad. If VW tried something like that, they'd be sued into oblivion!

It wouldn't have been good for market share (bad taste), but who would have sued him and for what? The last thing Ted Kennedy would have wanted was a libel trial.

That ad was from the National Lampoon and the Kennedy family had enough pull that by noon the day the issue hit the stands, all the issues were pulled and destroyed. Anyone who got an issue on the way to work in the morning had a rare magazine indeed.

I had a VW Squareback sedan which was actually a mini station wagon. When places like the Belt Pky would get flooded during a heavy rain other drivers would slow down through the water while I would keep going at my normal speed. There were times that I knew my wheels weren’t touching the road and I was in fact floating through the flood till I got to solid ground.

I don’t know if they were the same or not, but at the 1964/65 World’s Fair you could get a ride on a car that rode on land but drove into the lake at Flushing Meadow and took people around and back to land.

It appears to be mid to late 60s. Didn't have the larger turn indicators that the 70s Beetles had. My father had a '65 as a company car, could be as early as that. Definitely not late 50s or early 60s, as those had the white (rather than amber) turn indicators and the smaller rear window.

Two beauties. I used to bomb around with a friend of mine in his yellow ‘73 standard beetle like the one above.
That ‘68 is decked out! Bosch fanfare horns!
From my expert opinion I’d say the car in that clip was a 1968. That was a major year of change for the car and the little things you can see are the new bumpers and headrests that 1967 and earlier did not have. Plus the little grill on the front hood was for fresh air ventilation which was also new for ‘68. In fact the car in question could only be from ‘68 or ‘69. I’m calling ‘68 because of the color which based on the quality of the clip appears to be VW blue. In 1969 that color was dropped and replaced with Cobalt blue which is a slightly darker richer blue.
And you are correct about the turn signals. For the 1970 model year the signals on top of the fender were enlarged like the ones the yellow 1973 has, and remained that way until 1979. The oval windows had bullet signals on the lower side of the fenders. In 1958 they were moved to the top of the fender with clearish lenses and called peanuts. Then the larger ones like the red ‘68 has came out in 1964 and lasted through the 1969 model year.

Both of those cars are really nice after looking at them again. The yellow ‘73 should not have the chrome strips in the window rubber nor should there be a mirror on the right side but it looks great.
The reason for the deleted chrome window strips is that the standard beetle was a stripped down, cheaper car. The Super Beetle had the little touches like chrome window strips.

Conrail is still around as Conrail Shared Assets Operation, called "Conrail". The north track on the Delair bridge is the NJ Transit Atlantic City Line and the south track is Conrail's Delair Branch (CP HATCH [Pennsauken] to CP PARK [Philadelphia].
