Disregard. I have a claim it's in the 30's.

So sad to hear. I wonder if data is available how many had underlying conditions.

Per CDC guidance, the new ICD (diagnosis) code is U07.1 for COVID-19, and "the rules for coding and selection of the underlying cause of death are EXPECTED [emphasis added] to result in COVID-19 being the underlying cause more often than not."

True but the MAC's are so stringent with their standards if you have an underlying condition, you are not going to be allowed to drive a bus that's worth a half million bucks or a train worth millions of dollars.

Plus every passenger being a potential plaintiff in a possible law suit.

Yes, it is in the 30's. 33 to be exact.

NYCT President Sarah Feinberg was specifically asked that question in a live interview on 1010 WINS at 1643 hours.

She sidestepped a question about transit workers raising "concerns" over the lack of PPE for the workforce.

This is the same authority who always says "The safety of our customers and employees is our top priority".

To which I reply "Phooey". An employee is a 6 digit pass number. Period.

Hey asswhipe,

no need for name calling.

You just seem determined to minimize the risk especially those in subways and buses.

You bring up stats and scenarios but don't present any. Just want to tell everyone to suck it up and move that train.

You just don't get it Dutch. And you are a company man if there ever was one.

First of all my son works for Metro-North.

Second this entire controversy stems from NYCT refusing to provide PPE to the front line employees despite them requesting it as soon as this pandemic started. Now that it's out of hand, they are finally starting to issue stuff. Because of the much larger # of people we deal with vs. MN, and the smelly homeless we deal with yet you don't, we feel for our health, safety and that of our families the system should be closed. MTA says "The safety of our passengers and employees is our highest priority" is just another announcement to them.

If MTA has 74,000 employees, NYCT has the most by far. I can confidently say NYCT has the most positives and deaths out of all the agencies. 1 death is 1 too many. The longer subways stays open, the more deaths there will be. But they will stay open. Dead employees will simply be replaced. Doesn't matter if they quit, got fired, or died. Just somebody else to be replaced.

It's so easy not to care about us subway/bus people because you always thought you were better than us on the social scale since you serve those rich suburbanites of which you are one.

Think of region with no power , no way to pump fuel, no food, no refrigeration , no way to make food, no power to Hospitals as even those would run out of fuel. anarchy cause, not enough police , chaos when fire Dept has no water or fire fighters. really think about the scenario.

There is a stay at home order. A social distancing strategy. Trains and buses encourage movement and grouping. Sanitation, law enforcement, and power plant work doesn't.

You have to look at the big picture. How do many Sanitation, law enforcement & power plant workers and other essentials get to work? The answer is mass transit.
Bottom line, sometimes the necessity outweighs the risk. Often Sacrifices made by the few benefit the many. Thats just reality.

I am. I am not looking through a straw like you and Dutch.

How do many Sanitation, law enforcement & power plant workers

very few

and other essentials get to work?

Nurses for sure. All the delivery people and supermarket workers mass transit for sure.

Should hospitals stop elevators(hey, they're ATO) to eliminate the opportunity for social bunching so that people take the stairs instead?

Why did NYC install all those bike lanes?

NYC Transit workers are expected to move trains and buses for people who will find a way to work anyway.

As much as the safety of transit workers is important, it can’t be set up in such a way that it impacts on the safety of the rest of the population at large by taking away the means that many essential employees use to get to work.

Who's on the subway these days?

I doubt many doctors, cops, firemen. Those people aren't the subway crowd.

Maybe some nurses. But it's mostly people in the food delivery business.

If you think cops, firemen, and doctors are taking the train or bus you're out of touch.

We all know someone.

I know quite a few NYPD, FDNY, and they all drive.

Why do you think they have so much reserved parking at every single NYPD precinct and FDNY firehouses? Public schools too.

Most of these occupations drive to work.

Even a guy I went to school with who is a pharmacist for one of the city hospitals drive from Middle Village to Flushing.

If you take a train tomorrow, you'll see a ton of menial laborers who do food prep for delivery, deliver themselves, doormen, janitors, maids, cleaners, babysitters for rich people who don't want to be with kids, dog walkers, etc.............but not FDNY, NYPD.

Nurses are important and some will take the train but most don't.

Dutch is just stirring things up.

I look at this similar to a Transit strike. The occupations least affected would be FDNY and NYPD.

Hospital workers would be able to get to a from work and there are so many jobs at a hospital obviously the least paid rely most on buses and trains.

All I know is one thing.

From the very beginning we heard the words "Stop the spread, Stop the Spread, Stop the Spread".

I'm sure there are plenty non-essentials using public transportation. The more riding public transit, the more chance of spreading; the fewer riding public transit the less of a chance of it spreading; .......now fill in the last sentence.
