I'd rather SMASH the government! There is NOTHING wrong at all with our health care system which is by far and away the best in the WORLD, and there is nothing wrong with our "insurance" system, although according to me it is NOT insurance, but is rather a payment scheme, which is also ok. Many people use more and more health care in this country, the LION included, seeing doctors for things that I would have otherwise suffered through on my own. So not only is it costing more, but I have "super-sized" it if you will. That said there are people who cannot afford either medical care or the so-called "insurance". This is an issue that MUST be addressed, but you are addressing it to the wrong party. It should be addressed by the state and the welfare agencies. If a person is on welfare they SHOULD HAVE state supplied insurance. It should be as good as mine, although people with more money might buy better coverage, or the could, like my friend, Rush Limbaugh, simply do without insurance and simply pay bills out of pocket. Paying out of pocket is not as outlandish as it sounds. I pay $600/month of "insurance" or $7,200/year. Do I use that much health care that I could not pay that sum out of pocket? Over a five year period that would be $36,000! Do I use that much health care in five years. If not, why would I want to buy insurance, why not just put the money into savings, earn interest on it, and pay cash as I need to? And if I did not save that money, and I did need say heart surgery, the hospital would have to cover me anyway, and I could then work out a finance scheme with them to pay for their service. In the END, it is you who will pay, by insurance, by finance, by tax, or out of pocket: It is ALL THE SAME! You really do NOT need to see the doctor as often as you do, but I have, it seems, chosen to do so. So I pay for it. Mostly at the moment in the form of higher insurance premiums. ROAR |

What makes you think that we do not pay taxes? We pay tax on most of our property. If I do not pay income tax, it is because I have no income, not because I work for the church. Churches in North Dakota do pay sales taxes, but are exempt from property taxes. The monastery *does* pay property taxes on three square miles of farm land. Only the land under the church itself is exempt. But property taxes do not cover health costs, now do they. If our church or monastery is exempt from income tax it has jumped through several IRS hoops to be classified as 501.3 c organization. But many such organizations are so exempt, the law was not written for churches. LION would tax (at a federal level) all income, with no exemptions. LION would suggest: $0.00 to $100,000 = 0% tax $100,000 to $200,000 = 10% tax $200,000 to $1,000,000 = 15% tax $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 = 20% tax and $2,000,000 and up = 25% tax (top rate) Remember there are no deductions, and no exemptions. LION would like ZERO tax on corporations and businesses, but that is not going to happen. First a tax on business is irrelevant: They will pass the cost on to you with higher prices anyway. Second: is is the company that gets to say what is expense and what is profit, and they will fudge those numbers anyway. Since it is politically impossible to eliminate tax on companies, LION suggests a 1% tax on GROSS income, and not on profits. You touched the money, you pay the tax on it. Dead Simple. No extra accountants needed. The other side of the coin is to eliminate almost all federal expenses. The Military is the only real justified expense outside of the operation of the government itself. Everything else should be shifted to the States. So the LION would reduce your federal tax to almost zero, or to zero for most people, but increase state taxes to cover the needs, which truly are there. There *ARE* things that only government can take care of, but all ought to be done at the LOWEST level of government possible. ROAR |

Not only should the health insurance companies be dismantled, those who worked there should be prohibited from working in the health care field or elsewhere in the insurance business. then we go after the oil companies who poison the planet. |

"There *ARE* things that only government can take care of, but all ought to be done at the LOWEST level of government possible."This is a fine principle known as subsidiarity, which is sorely lacking in government today. That is why everyone cries that Uncle Sam should pay to build subways and other infrastructure in New York City; we have forgotten the value of subsidiarity. New York City taxes should pay for New York City infrastructure. |

What it means to all NYCT employees is that Obomacare will greatly reduce the quality of your health care insurance. What that snake oil salesman called Oboma called "Cadalac" health care plans to try to imply the health plans for the rich are in actuality the health plans most Union workers fairly get in NYC(including myself). The unions got a temp exemption to make it look like it was the next president who reduced thier health insureance. Changes have already occured with my GHI plan to reduce the costs. Many TOP DOCTORS who get paid more than average docs have been dropped In order to reach the cost reduction to get under the cadalac tax, health care services will need to resemble walk in clinics. Instead of reducing the cost of health care, Oboma care is just a tax and then the government decide where to spend on healthcare. It is liberal big gov politics at it's worst with middle class transit worker taking the brunt of the punishment It is purpose is to put the private insurers out of business so everyone is on a single payer medicaid type plan. Underpay the doctors, reduce competition. Reduce the quality of health care Poor health care outcomes in the US are primarily the result of people not following doctors orders. A doctor can not help you if you refuse to stop smoking or if your are diabetic, following your diet. My cousin is a doctor at Brooklyn Hospital, he sees the same cast of diabetic patients in and out of the hospital that dont take thier medicine and eat what they please. These small group of people account for 80% of all health care costs. If you dont follow doctors orders, you should not be able to take free health care |

"If a person is on welfare they SHOULD HAVE state supplied insurance. It should be as good as mine"The problem is that government oversight of the medicaid plan was zero. Worst than zero, the politicians were profiting from turning a blind eye to medicaid fraud. The gov underpay docs and dentists which leads to fast and sloppy service. Since people did not complain, the poor quality service continues. In many cases people who go to medicaid dentists have far worse teath then those who don't go to dentist at all. Why? If a dentist drills into a tooth that has a minor cavaty or none at all and does not properly clean out the hole before filling it actually leads to root canal in few years "Paying out of pocket is not as outlandish as it sounds. I pay $600/month of "insurance" or $7,200/year. Do I use that much health care that I could not pay that sum out of pocket? Over a five year period that would be $36,000! Do I use that much health care in five years. If not, why would I want to buy insurance, why not just put the money into savings, earn interest on it, and pay cash as I need to?" Very true, but the reason it is called insurance is that if god forbid you contract CANCER, your medical bills will be in the hundreds of thousands quite quickly and then what. The system is not as broken as people make it out to be. If we cut down on fraud, limit frivilous lawsuits that it is cheaper to settle then win, over testing we could bring costs down quickly and more people could afford medical insurance. I agree with the mandate that everyone pay into the insurance system similar to car insurance or set up a medical savings account. What I don't agree with in Oboma Care is that the does not reduce real costs(reducing cost by reducing quality is not reducing the cost of the service). It is a tax and spend scheme |

Snake oil salesman???? Don't disrespect the president. Everybody deserves some health care, many people arent as lucky as us. Sometimes we don't remember there are quite a number people in this great nation that don't have healthcare in any form. Big HMO providers don't give a damn about them. Oh i'm a engineer for amtrak and a diabectic. yes i work out and take care of myself, but diet cant do it alone. |

The rest of the world has surpassed us. The US ranks 43rd in life expectancy, according to the CIA. 55 countries have a lower infant mortality rate. 46 countries have a lower maternal mortality rate. You really do NOT need to see the doctor as often as you do You mean that the relative decline in US health is due to an over reliance of seeing doctors? The US lags behind the rest of the world in seeing doctors in a timely manner. |
