PHOTOS: Then & Now |
|
Posted by kp5308 on Wed Aug 28 21:08:17 2019 Two years ago Norfolk Southern sold 62 of its EMD GP38-2 locomotives via an auction at Roanoke, Virginia conducted by Blackmon Auctions. Reading & Northern picked up 4 & quickly put them in running condition. RBMN 2011 was the only one that ran around with a bit of an identity issue for a few months. Shot on the Port Clinton ready track October 16th 2017:Today was the maiden trip of the completely refurbished #2011. The 2 most notable upgrades are the chopped nose & the switch to short hood forward controls. All 4 retain the walkway light fixtures on the top of the long hood, a Southern Railway staple. One is above the radiator grille & the other is in front of the dynamic brake blister. RBMN shop forces applied all the paint with rollers & brushes at Port Clinton in about 2 weeks. Don't know why the diamond is smaller on the cabside than usual but still a sharp looking motah: |

For that reason RBMN restricted the 4 Geeps to trailing status only until the noses were chopped. I can think of a half dozen second generation high nosed units that have been preserved. |
