The location of the picture is in a city park which sits in a bowl, if you will. The elevation both north and south of the park is higher, so the entire ROW in the park is elevated to match the ROW north and south of the park and the bridge approach.Here's a couple of pictures from March 2014 showing what I mean:   |

Excellent pictures.The structure reminds me of what President Lincoln said when he saw a bridge erected by Union General Herman Haupt and his engineers during the war: "That man Haupt has built a bridge four hundred feet long and one hundred feet high, across Potomac Creek, on which loaded trains are passing every hour, and upon my word, gentlemen, there is nothing in it but cornstalks and beanpoles." The bridge in your photos doesn't look like it can support that huge train, but like the old general's masterpiece, there it is. |
