I still don't think of ugly late 70s cars as "classics". What next, four-cylinder Mustang IIs are "classics" as well?

Short of having to build a high-level platform, why not reopen that station then if it's still in place to do it?

Why ? Because it has a shed? There's nothing more there than any of the other stations closed. In fact there's less....at least center moriches had a large paved parking lot. They would need to rebuild as much here as anywhere else. Also remember, this is not one of the 1998 closings. It was closed long before.

Looks like that lot is now used for daytime school bus storage. Abandoned LIRR properties sure do attract school buses...

And spend millions to build a platform for a couple of people who may use it on a line that sees 2 or 3 trains a day ?

They can drive to the closest station and the LIRR will save money for something more important.

LIRR is very cheap in building or extending high level platforms to regular passengers. Not one has been lengthened since 1998 construction, yet Pompous-Predendergast and Know-Nothing-Nowakowski found $4 million to build to new platforms at Belmont Park that are used one day per year. The portable stairs they had on the old low level platforms worked fine for other events since 1970.

Judging by current Speonk schedules, Centre Moriches today would get about 10 train each way per day. The area has grown a lot in the last 20 years.(Holtsville is another matter).

That something more important given LIRR's stupid priorities were what ? Belmont Park ?
Mid-Suffolk Yard's 10 tracks when only 4 will ever be needed given their own service projections after double tracking and triple tracking ?

Holtsville is dense enough....about the same as Medford it hasn't changed (although is industrial around the station, although so is Medford. . That said the reason the station wasn't used much as because it is close to Ronkonkoma withmuch better service. And that's a two or three trains a day and no one used it

Medford definitely would get much better ridership with more service. Driving to Ronkonkoma is no one's idea of fun.

Yes. It's not bad from holtsville, but is a pain from Medford, esspecially rush hours. But holtsville would still be asier to use than the horror that is Ronkonkoma

Can someone explain what's going on here? Is this something related to Manual Block operation?

Yes, they used to use paper train orders when it was manual block and no signals.

Yes, to the engineer of the train. The train would be moving at that point.

I remember seeing that in action. If the engineer missed the hoop the conductor would be several cars back to snag it.
