Notice for most of these "planned Service Changes", there is no reason given.

Makes you really think they 're catching up on infrastructure, but they are not.
They have the J line shutdown along Jamaica Avenue on weekends just so they can park a work train at one of the 2 stations they are rebuilding. They aren't touching the tracks nor the signal system

My eye tends to scan down the columns on that first poster, but it's clear from the order of the routes that it's meant to be read across the rows.

And this is why NYCT needs 3 track lines. They should fill in that center track from Crescent St to 121st so that at least they can run trains through. Lord knows they've long forgotten how to single track.

In any case sometimes we don't want to know what's going on. For example I found out "trackwork" on WMATA this weekend was for cell phone cable install, so that there would be reception between stations. Talk about first world problems, maybe they should be working on getting ATO back in order... or is it so that people are at least entertained while crawling through tunnels when more trains are shoved through the line than human operation can handle.

Thanks for that! The "before 2010" sucked except for that summary sheet in the top left of that pic.

If they're going through all that effort, they might as well print up a weekend map each week and stuff it in the weekend box.

I realize it's somewhat impractical since the map "team" IIRC is just one guy.

I always felt that the temporary extension of the 3 to 34/Penn Sta should have been made a permanent part of the midnight 3 schedule. Iw wouldn’t be any different from the old midday service pattern of turning 4 trains at Atlantic Av and would not significantly impact on the crew work programs since it would probably be easier for the T/O to change ends by walking along the platform at 34 St than it is walking through the train on the middle tk N/O the station.

It would mean the middle platform at 34 St. would be open, but only for the 3, during midnight hours, while the 2 would stop at the local platform. Signing that clearly would be difficult. Probably easier to close the platform off at night. Do they close it now?

Yes and no. I've been there a few times at night. Sometimes it's taped off. Sometimes it's not. Sometimes they taped one stairway but not the others.

And sometimes, a 3 train is sent there in service anyway. Usually in the early morning; there are a few trains that run through to Brooklyn before the last 3 that terminates at 42nd, so sometimes the last short-turned 3 is sent to 34th so they don't block the road fumigating it at 42nd.

The maps I put out on a weekly basis are a one-man operation as well. As I also have a full-time job, I don't really see that as an excuse. Maybe he has other responsibilities besides updating the maps, but the MTA should really look into creating a service map at the very least for the weekends.

I want to second that sentiment. The existing weekend service guides suck, and your maps allow much more information to be processed in a short amount of time.

Unfortunately, Second Avenue Sagas still wishes someone would put together weekend GO maps...
