Originally the Belmont Park station was south of Hempstead Tpke. According to arrts-arrchives.com, it was moved to north of Hempstead Tpke. in 1962.

Correct! The current road under Hempstead Tpke was actually two separate track ways, that lead to the terminal, now a parking lot.

Nice pictures, thanks for sharing! That middle picture looks like a set of DD-1s hauling a thru Pennsy train passing thru Woodside enroute to the 1939 Worlds Fair.

Which ironically is when the old Belmont Park grandstand was condemned (actually January 1963), with racing at Aqueduct for the next five years while the current grandstand was built (opening I believe May 26, 1968).

I'm not not sure of the destination, but those tracks could very well be the Port Washington tracks, and pass next to Flushing Meadows.

I would have thought that with that much time to complete the re-build and move of the LIRR Terminal platforms, a better platform would have been built.





1905 view looking east we see the original Belmont Park Race Track station with 4 steam-drawn trains and one electric MU train. Opened in 1905.

Look at the clerestory on top. The Mineola has rectangular glass panes, while the photo you posted has arched glass panes.

That's the dead giveaway.
