4th and 5th cars were derailed, right? I can presume safely that either the conductor was injured or tending to injuries in that car because it was the conductors car involved. But I'm not referring to that train I'm referring to the ones that were stuck for an hour that had no unusual occurrences of that power off that's where management needs to be prevalent but your argument of taking the crew off the train would get nobody nowhere real fast Without managerial assistance. Perhaps nobody in management has been burned yet because people are frequently evacuating themselves off of delay trains, I'm just trying to figure out how you think that opto would make a better outfit which it can't Under circumstances like this

The concern is real. Work, wages, etc. has to be redefined. In addition to not needing showers, hotel rooms, restaurants, etc., robots won't need the products that they produce. So, even those who initially prosper through automation, will eventually go bankrupt.

My point is that the problem of displacing T/O's and C/R's through automation should not be borne by the subway passenger. The problem is more universal.

Salary shouldn't be published by name, except for political appointees and people they hire. For everyone else, names and any other ID info should be stripped out.
Sure, we need to know how much we are (or were) paying to have Port Authority cops stand at tollbooths including overtime & other similar costs. We DON'T need to know that by name.

A better question would be, why are some new systems (dare I say AirTrain) built from the start as automated operations?

The PANYNJ could have chosen to go with a system using trains operates by humans (which I still think is inherently better, for a number of reasons). They didn't, because the PA didn't want to pay humans, or cover the costs of their benefits.

That is the unfortunate reality of our century. I don't think everything should be done by robots, but corporations and city governments often think otherwise.

Their functions can probably be automated. The tower was automated by London Transport back in the 1930's.

Get rid of them all and keep the bureaucrats at 347 Madison, 2 Broadway, 130 & 180 Livingston.

Those bureaucrats are the ones who are saving your jobs. They know they have no future, if they eliminate people to supervise. That's why they have not pushed automation.

A government entity has a duty to be as efficient as possible with the resources it has. If the most efficient way to do this is with one (or no) person crews, so be it.

This isn't some sort of welfare government jobs program. The populace has the right to demand that it's tax dollars be spent wisely.

How do you think those 300 emergency personnell were notified? The crew on the trained informed RCC who in turn informed the police, FDNY etc.

How do you think the derailment was discovered? The T/O went down to investigate.

I've been involved with a 12-9 how the emergency personell find out someone was under the train? I had to tell them of course. The passengers om the train didn't know anything obviously and the passengers on the platform got the hell outta there. If the passenger was still alive and can be saved with time of the essence who exactly gonna get that person get the help he needs if no personel is on the train?

I've taken a lot of flak over my views. Please quote me accurately.

I wrote that the reports indicted the time interval from the derailment to the conductor's announcement was 10 to 20 minutes. Not an absolute 20 minutes.

I also wrote that it was 20 minutes before the C/R came around to unlock the doors between the cars.

How do you think those 300 emergency personnell were notified?

I've previously written that I would like to see an NTSB report because a detailed description of emergency actions is always included.

Some C/R's have an attitude and might do such a thing. But 99% follow the rule book.

If I was still a c/r, I'm going to open one car door at a time to evacuate. I do not want a stampede.

For announcements, 2 minutes feel like 10 minutes, unless you have a stopwatch.

The crew would like to get an idea on what is going on with the train before they start giving announcements which may not be accurate. The t/o has to call control appraising them of the situation, the c/r should then be told by the t/o what's happening.

I didn't say i didn't believe you i said i don't believe the account of an annoucement not being made in 20 min. The literally the C/R's job in the event of extended delays is to keep riders informed.
Quick aside a couple yrs ago I had a Bravo (B line) job. Going NB bet Columbus Circle and 72nd st the dispatnher comtacted me on the radio to tell me bc of a delay after 72 we're going express. We stop at 72nd st and my partner annoucned about 10 times we were going express and what to do if you want lcl stops. I know bc I heard him making rhe announcements clear as day theough my cab door. We.start moving and we get to 125th and a gentleman comes to the front cab window and saus to me very rudely thanks for kidnapping him np pneade any.announcements. Now i instantly knew why he thought that bc i saw headphones hanging around his neck.

And by the way, the rebuttals don't argue to Stephen's point. Stephen says you don't need humans to operate the trains and the doors. The rebuttals say that the humans do other very useful tasks.

A single example, even if 100% accurate, doesn't contradict a rebuttal that lists numerous other occasions on which NYCT employees have been useful engaging in tasks other than operating trains and doors.
